Spring is here!

The sun is out, but the nights are still cold! Spring is here!
It's the time of year where egg laying goes into overdrive and we're getting on average 5 eggs a day from our 9 hens. What else has been going on up here?

The sunny days mean that the chickens are out in their run more and no longer sulking inside their coop. They have recently discovered the wonders of the compost pile and have been helping me out by tossing through the contents everyday. What great aerators! We add to the pile weekly and I try to rake it all up back inside the ring during the weekends.

The undercover dust bathing areas are also getting a good workout, especially since we are still getting quite a bit of rain and the ground is rather soggy still.

The magnolia outside the coop is in full bloom. No smell though...

Speaking of blooms...

*flap flap flap* Trying to keep his balance on poor little Goldilocks!

As you know, Flopsy is terrified of Buffy (runs away when she sees Buffy a'comin), but when he does catch her, it's time for a squat. He got caught in the act and decided to act innocent ^^. Buffy is extremely cheeky, trying to sow his oats on every hen, even the ones not from his flock! Penguin is quite the gentleman, he just woos the hens in his flock and doesn't chase any other.

Aaand, the kangaroos have been using our garden for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The little joey we saw months ago has now grown so big that he can barely fit into mumma's pouch. Look at those legs dangling out!

The kangaroos are not fazed by the chickens. In turn, our chickens are wary of the roos, but are not unduly frightened. They do give them a wide berth in the garden though!

So what's been happening with you?

And even though the weather is warmer, our chickens still don't say no to a cuddle session!
