RIP Houdini

Awful news, Houdini has gone over the rainbow bridge.

They were out on their supervised free range time today and two dogs appeared.

Unfortunately, the encounter with the two dogs did not end well for Houdini.

It goes to show, you can't be too careful. Go inside for a minute and come out to find two dogs, a dead chicken and none of the others in sight. So you start to panic and think that the dogs killed every one of them.

Thankfully the others were unhurt, but scattered every where, Goldilocks was found up in the rafters of the greenhouse.

I would like to blame the dog owner, but it turns out that our stormy and windy days made the dog's gate open and the roamed around until they found Houdini. They live about 2km away.

The council was called, they took the dogs away, told us that the owner would be fined and will asked
to compensate us.

At least the dog owners were decent enough to call us. He offered us whatever we wanted as compensation. But it's not the money. Houdini was the Leghorn that would shoot to my side each time I brought out the rake. For her, this meant tasty worms being dug up for her. She was always my little helper in the veggie patch.

And this is the last photo of her that I took this morning, with her sister Spot in front. I was going to comment that with all this rain and mud, our white Leghorns are looking decidedly brown.

Rest in peace little Houdini. You couldn't escape this one and sorry you had to go in such a way.
See you on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
