Adelaide's coldest August in 126 years!
The other night Adelaide shivered through a low of 0.9 degrees.
On the weekend though, it was only a balmy 5.9 degrees
For us in Adelaide, that's cold! Especially in houses that were not built to keep out the cold. My house has always been consistently colder inside than outside. Yesterday, even with the heater on full blast, it was still warmer outside. So I gave up trying to do work inside and spent the rest of the day with the chickens.
Poor Buffy was especially shivery, didn't object to being picked up and cuddled
Penguin's feet turned pink with the cold. They are normally supposed to be a dark grey colour.
All the chickens are hungry all the time, but they are turning up their beaks at their special "X-TRA Egg" pellets from Laucke. Supposed to be higher protein for them to help with their moulting/growing feathers.
So cold nights mean bright sunny and dry days. All the chickens pick a sunny spot and sunbathe their days away. So you'd think that the chickens would be picking up their laying habits again right?
WRONG. Looks like they held a conference. Dee Dee and Effie who were laying pretty much 5 out of 7 days have decided that it is too cold to lay eggs. Both spend their days lying in the sun or eating and getting fat.
Here's hoping for spring and the abundance of eggs! In the meantime, keep warm!
